SUBERB
Systemic solutions for upscaling of urgent ecosystem restoration for forest related biodiversity and ecosystem services

SUPERB: pioneering and upscaling transformative forest restoration practices across Europe, towards the creation of a universal knowledge sharing platform.

In a multidisciplinary partnership, SUPERB will develop a publicly available knowledge base on the restoration of large-scale forest and forest landscapes that will combine scientific, practical and financial tools, advice and material to accelerate a global transformation towards sustainable forest management. It will do so by generating and demonstrating best practices in responding to key forest restoration and adaptation challenges in 12 large-scale demonstrators (demos) across Europe. From a project area of some hundred hectares per demo SUPERB will create the potential for further upscaling to over a million hectares in 10-15 years. To secure and inspire long-lasting, socially just breakthroughs in forest restoration, the project will be defined by the close involvement of all stakeholders in the collaborative efforts driven by the demos.

Prospex Institute's Role
Prospex Institute will be responsible for coordinating SUPERB’s broad-based engagement of stakeholders, from local communities to restoration professionals, forest managers and policymakers. Thereby it will help ensure that the solutions developed by the 12 demos and shared through the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Gateway knowledge platform will be the result of inclusive co-creation, co-owned by and benefitting everyone involved. As part of this, Prospex Institute will carry out a comprehensive stakeholder mapping. It will also support innovative pathways for reinforcing restoration approaches with diverse stakeholder contributions. Throughout the project, it will guide the demos in developing and implementing their stakeholder engagement strategies.
This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement number 101036849.
