EXCESS ADVISORY BOARD MEETING - 8 & 9 February 2021

Excess.png
What is the EXCESS project?

EXCESS - FleXible user-CEntric Energy poSitive houseS – brings together 21 partners from 8 countries to showcase how nearly-zero energy buildings can be transformed into positive energy buildings. Funded by the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme over a 4-year period, EXCESS will spearhead four innovative demonstration projects, introducing technical solutions that enable buildings to produce more renewable energy than they consume over the course of a year. By implementing demonstration projects that span across the Nordic, Continental, Oceanic and Mediterranean climate zones, EXCESS seeks to test, validate and share PEB solutions with potential replicability across Europe.

What is the advisory board?

During the EXCESS project we will have 3 advisory board meetings. These meetings are meant as a platform for the project to interact with key stakeholders in the field of positive energy buildings. Before each meeting, a survey is conducted within the project to identify key cross-cutting issues to be addressed during the advisory board meetings. Participating stakeholders will be invited to provide inputs on these issues and will also have the opportunities to learn more about the latest developments in the project and the state of the art in the field of PEBs in Europe.

The 1st Advisory Board Meeting

There will be 5 sessions during this advisory board meeting, participants are invited to attend as many sessions as they like. We would invite all participants to attend the introduction session that will take place at the start of Day 1.  Below you can find an overview of the different sessions with a short description.

 DAY 1

Monday

08.02.2021

Connection & Warm-up | 8:30 - 9:00

 SESSION 1  | 9:00 - 10:00

Welcome & Introduction to the EXCESS Project on Positive Energy Buildings (PEB)

Learn about how the EXCESS project will show that nearly-zero energy buildings can be transformed into positive energy buildings by integrating a variety of energy saving and production technologies. By working in 4 different climatic zones and different types of buildings (newly constructed vs. renovation, high-end apartments vs. social and student housing) EXCESS aims to produce results that can be valuable input for decision-makers, planners, actors in the building sector, energy providers and authorities across Europe and beyond.

Break | 10:00 - 10:30

 SESSION 2  | 10:30 - 12:00

How to encourage PEB take-up via smart regulation and incentives?

The EXCESS project has thoroughly inventoried and assessed successful (and less successful) examples of positive energy buildings across Europe. Join this session to get insights on this research and discuss with us the question of which regulations and incentives need to be established to encourage the roll out of more PEBs across Europe and this should be done. And what is the role of the EU in this endeavour? We do not have all the answers yet would like to share our ideas and to learn from your experiences and viewpoints.

Break | 12:00 - 14:00

 SESSION 3  | 14:00 - 15:30

More awareness of PEB

= more demand?

In order to increase the demand for positive energy buildings all over Europe it is important that the relevant actors know about and get the information they need. But is this enough and how should this be done most efficiently? In this session we want to find answers to these questions together with those of you that work in the planning and implementation of construction projects.

 DAY 2

Tuesday

09.02.2021

Connection & Warm-up | 8:30 - 9:00

 SESSION 5  | 9:00 - 10:00

Key Note Session

Break | 10:00 - 10:30

 SESSION 6  | 10:30 - 12:00

How does the market need to develop to reflect the cost pressure in construction of high-energy efficient buildings?

Integration of technologies to reduce the cost/replacement of other materials, Municipal plans as drivers, advanced energy system leads to additional services/increase of revenues and high resiliency.

Break | 12:00 - 14:00

 SESSION 7  | 14:00 - 15:30

Spotlight on the 4 EXCESS demonstration sites

No matter if you have joined the live visit to the Belgian demo site during the first day of the event, in this session you will get to know all 4 EXCESS demonstration sites in short flash presentations. The demo site teams will be able to answer your questions, share their firsthand experiences and the challenges they encounter in the first planning and implementation phases.

Break | 15:30 - 16:00

 SESSION 8  | 16:00 - 17:00

Closing session: what comes next?

After two fruitful days of exchange with you, the EXCESS External Advisory Board, we would like to outline what is to come next in the project and how you can stay connected.

Break | 15:30 - 16:00

 SESSION 4  | 16:00 - 17:00

Live digital visit to the Belgian EXCESS demonstration site

The Belgium demo site consists of existing multi-story social housing apartment buildings, which have been equipped with two vertical wind turbines and a PVT system on the roofs used for heat generation. In addition, the thermal energy storage will be integrated in system level. Join us for a live digital tour of the Belgium demo site and discuss with us about experiences with the installation and first monitoring results.

Online networking | 17:00 - 18:00
